Our Projects
The Toodyay Friends of the River (the Friends) have undertaken many projects over the past fourteen years. These include support of the Avon Ribbons of Blue project, weed surveys, support and liaison with a Prisoner Work Camp Team, and assisting with the River Recovery Planning Process.
Over the past ten years, they have been particularly concerned at the movement of sediment (sand) into the lower reaches of the river, filling the last of the major pools.
To highlight this issue, they embarked on a campaign to draw this issue to a head. This included the publishing of a Paper in January 2006 to highlight the importance of stopping thie sediment now, before it enters the Swan River. This paper is available in a pdf format (on request).
The Friends have been working in collaboration with the Toodyay Naturalists' Club and the Toodyay Historical Society on litter pickups. They are also adopting their own litter program, and have registered their interest with Keep Australia Beautiful WA in the ADOPT-A-SPOT community litter prevention program.
The Toodyay Friends of the River Inc. meet on the third Sunday of each month at Duidgee Park, at 8am from October to April, then 9am May to September. Contact us for further details on times.
